The U.S. Department of Energy and CWI, our cleanup contractor, recently responded to a request from the Idaho Science Center in Arco for a display cask that shows how waste or spent nuclear fuel is safely transported. This demonstration cask (shown right) had been used to familiarize workers and the public on how transuranic waste is transported from Idaho to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico for disposal. The cask had been stored at the Radioactive Waste Management Complex for many years with no identified future use before it was donated to the Idaho Science Center.
