Here’s What’s Going on with DOE-ID
As you know, we initiated a survey under “Voice of the People” last
month, in order to get your input on how we can make this website more useful to you.
In response to your feedback, one thing we did is develop a monthly article that attempts
to capsulize the activities and opportunities for public input, all in one place. This
is the first of those articles.
Public Involvement Opportunities
You have until close of business on June 21
to provide input on a small-scale soil cleanup
at Test Area North on the U.S. Department of
Energy’s Idaho site. An Engineering Evaluation/Cost
Analysis document with three proposed alternatives
for soil cleanup is under evaluation by the DOE,
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the
Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. For
details, go to the Idaho Cleanup Project homepage
at:
https://idahocleanupproject.com/portals/0/documents/TSF-07_EE-CA_DOE-ID-11401.pdf.
Procurement Opportunity: Providing Office Space
You’ll have to act fast if you have office space
that might be available to support the DOE Office
of Environmental Management. DOE is looking to lease
approximately 16,000 to 18,000 square feet of new or
existing office space to support the cleanup mission
at the Idaho site. Proposals must be received by 5 p.m.
MDT on June 5. For more details, see the news release posted at
http://www.id.doe.gov/NEWS/PressReleases/PR090529.htm.
ARRA Activities
Our cleanup contractors are moving ahead aggressively
with environmental cleanup and waste management activities
which have been accelerated by American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 funds. See our news releases
at http://www.id.doe.gov/NEWS/PressReleases.htm
for more information about new employees hired with
ARRA money at the Advanced Mixed Waste Cleanup Project
and about the first shipment of mixed low-level waste
paid for by ARRA funds. You may also be interested in the
Notice on Civil Rights Obligations Applicable to the
Distribution of Funds under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009. This document is located

DOE and our contractors were pleased to host distinguished visitors
from the staffs of both of Idaho’s U.S. Senators recently. Luke Tomanelli,
the new legislative aide for energy and natural resources for Idaho Sen.
Mike Crapo, spent three days here for tours and briefings along with Colin
Jones, a legislative fellow with the senator’s Washington office, and Idaho
Falls staffers Leslie Huddleston and Zach Adams. Meanwhile, Amy Taylor, Matt
Ellsworth, Michael Manning and Chris Hannish of Idaho Sen. James Risch’s
staff toured Idaho Cleanup Project facilities. (See photos accompanying
this article.).
Upcoming Outreach Activities
Each week Danielle Miller of my staff compiles a calendar of upcoming
outreach activities. We have started posting the calendar on
http://www.id.doe.gov under
the Outreach Event Calendar located on the left side of the web page. For
example on the calendar, the INL Cultural Resources Tour in conjunction with the
INL’s 60th anniversary will be held June 12, and the next Citizens Advisory
Board meeting is scheduled for July 14.
Idaho Operations Summary
Every two weeks or so, we develop a summary of incidents that occur at DOE’s
Idaho site, along with updates on operational successes among our contractors.
We are now posting this summary at
http://www.id.doe.gov/NEWS/OperationsSummarys.htm. If you’d like to be added
to the distribution list, you can contact me directly at
buggerbp@id.doe.gov.
And if you have any input on ways to make this website more useful, please let me know. Thanks,
