for Nuclear Power Deployment, has
been named the interim manager of the U.S. Department of
Energy’s Idaho Operations Office, while the Department
recruits a permanent manager.
Mr. Miotla will succeed Elizabeth Sellers, who has served
as Idaho Operations Office Manager from April, 2003. Sellers
plans to retire from federal service in February.
“Under Beth Sellers’ leadership, DOE has witnessed the
transformation of the Idaho National Laboratory into the
nation’s leading nuclear energy laboratory, and the
appointment of Dennis Miotla to this position will ensure
the lab’s continued success,” said DOE Principal Deputy
Assistant Secretary Shane Johnson.
Mr. Miotla has been with the Department of Energy for 18
years and has held progressively more responsible positions.
Prior to his most recent position, he was the Deputy
Director for Nuclear Operations, Office of Nuclear Energy.
In that position he was responsible for the transition of
the Idaho National Laboratory contract and the management of
the Idaho site programs, as well as the radiological
facilities programs which encompassed several DOE sites. He
was awarded a Presidential Rank Award for his outstanding
performance in the advancement of these programs. Before
coming to the Office of Nuclear Energy, Mr. Miotla was the
Director, Office of Research, Development and Test
Facilities, Office of Defense Programs, National Nuclear
Security Administration, where he was responsible for the
Federal management of operations and facilities at Los
Alamos, Sandia and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories
and the Nevada Test Site. Mr. Miotla came to the Department
of Energy in 1990 with more than 16 years of experience at
the Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Bettis Atomic Power
Laboratory in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. At Bettis, he held
a variety of positions in nuclear reactor design and
analysis, project management, and nuclear facility
operations. Mr. Miotla holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
nuclear engineering from the State University of New York at
Buffalo and a Master’s of Business Administration from the
